As The Heart of Virginia Foundation continues to grow, we will be offering expanded services and programs.  Below is a list of services offered at this time.

Public Information:

  • The Heart of Virginia Foundation’s website (www.theheartofva.org) provides information about educational and instructional services provided by The Heart of Virginia Foundation, as well as links to available community resources for mental illness  
  •  Integrated Arts Exhibits- The Heart of Virginia Foundation Center for Integrated Arts Song Bird Gallery and Stage features local and regional artists. 

Diminishing Stigma:

  • THE UGLY TRUTH - A motivational program geared towards youth.  The 60 minute program is designed to address today's issues and tough choices that our young people face on a daily basis.  By focusing on how simple choices have life long consequences; we reinforce strong moral values and goal oriented lives.  This straight talk program is candid and addresses mental and physical health, sexuality, drug and alcohol addiction, and the maze of adolescence and life's pitfalls. 
  •  MUSIC FOR MENTAL HEALTH (a component of the Virginia Road Show) A combination of testimony and music that conveys the struggles and triumphs of mental illness and the healing process.  This testimony that will touch your heart and inspire you to live life to the fullest and change the way you view mental health.  The presentation is great for young adult and adult groups and congregations.  Material may be inappropriate for younger children.

 Education and Instruction:

  • Integrating Art and Faith- Art, music, and spirituality play important preventive roles in emotional  well being. Joyful Noise, a music and arts program geared towards youth is directed by The Heart  of Virginia Founder, Tommy Edwards and hosted by Green Hill Church of the Brethren in Salem, VA.  The group meets every Wednesday at 7:30pm- all youth are welcome to attend!
  •  Aluminum for the Arts (the art of sustainability) - Leading by example, The Heart of Virginia Foundation is working locally to educate the public on the role recycling plays in sustainable living practices and to generate capital to reinvest directly back into community arts and well-being programs.
  • Workshops and Instructional Arts- The Heart of Virginia hosts singer/songwriter workshops, as well as voice and guitar lessons.
