EXCITING NEWS!!!   The Heart of Virginia Foundation and the Arts Council of the Blue Ridge, in conjunction with Doreen’s Gourmet, would like to present the Virginia Center for Integrated Arts Songbird Gallery and Stage. The Songbird Gallery and Stage will feature:

               -Live music weekly

-Poetry night

-Local youth talent showcases

-Bi-quarterly gallery receptions featuring local and regional artists

-Integrated arts workshops

By providing artists with a venue to grow and showcase their talents, we are:

- Working to assist in the development of a community for artists to share ideas and knowledge

-Helping artists develop a working knowledge of art and commerce through

mentor programs

-Providing greater public exposure to art through our Art in Public Places

program

-Providing local youth with opportunities for self-expression, professional arts training, and more

The gallery will showcase both established and emerging artists from Roanoke and around the region. Featured artists will be showcased with a reception every six weeks, which will include live music, wine and hors doeuvres, performance art, and a coordinated marketing and promotion campaign.

The stage will continue to draw local and regional talent, as well as, provide a space for youth, new comers, poets, and performers to develop and showcase their talents.

We are ecstatic that we are continuing to move forward, promoting our mission and striving to accomplish our goals!

Mission Statement
Monday, 31 March 2008
The mission of The Heart of Virginia is to raise awareness of a desperate need for expanded and accessible mental health and well being programs in the state of Virginia, and to de-stigmantize mental illness through education and community outreach.

Our Goals and Origin
Monday, 31 March 2008

Our short term goal consists of a campaign of fund-raising events over the course of the next year to raise money to contribute to New River Valley Community Services to be dispersed to provide additional funding for mental health services for the community, to include first responders, and the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program.  The CIT Program consists of officer training, dispatcher training, and community collaboration to better identify and respond to mental health-related crises.

Our long term goal is to develop and operate a Center for Integrated Arts which will consist of a combination of traditional fine and performing arts, as well as, healing and meditative art.   The idea is to create a multi use space that can be used to develop youth community arts programs as a means of wellness and prevention to promote healthy emotional and psychological states and to expand our understanding of the cultural and human condition in a world that is quickly out pacing itself.
